Dear Family and Friends: I don’t know anyone who doesn’t realize the impact AIDS is having on our neighborhoods and our world. Although, I don’t have AIDS and don’t think I know anyone who does; conquering this virus is an imperative goal and I’ve decided to support it wholeheartedly.
"Sadly, AIDS remains the leading cause of death for all people ages 15 to 59 worldwide. In the US, the number of people living with HIV keeps growing and now stands at nearly 1.2 million. According to UNAIDS, “Every day, over 6,800 persons become infected with HIV, and over 5,700 persons die of AIDS, mostly because of inadequate access to HIV prevention and treatment services.”"
The AIDS Foundation of Chicago (AFC) has been successfully fundraising through marathons for years. They provide coaching, race entry and assistance throughout the training program. I have joined the cause; I plan to race in the Chicago Marathon on October 11th, to support AFC.
I’ll turn 40 on October 1st and running a marathon before or around that date has evolved as a personal goal over the past couple of years. I’ve never run a marathon, let alone any other road race. Hopefully, the laps in the pool will make these steps much less difficult.
Years of competitive swimming and coaching have left me with a need to set personal goals for myself and they have also left me with an understanding that a goal outside of oneself solidifies reaching the personal goal. My goal is not just to open a door within myself to a brighter future, nor is it to simply complete a marathon, it is to raise $5000 for a great cause.
NOW, I’m asking you join the cause and help fight this virus within our society. We hope to raise 1 million for AFC by running marathons. Please donate!
Thank you for you
