Dear Friends and Family,

I’ve decided to take on the tremendous challenge yet again, to help in the fight against AIDS, and I realize that it is trying times for many people however, I really hope you will support my efforts. Over the next several months, I’ll be training to complete in my 4th marathon, the Bank of America Chicago Marathon on October 11; Plus, I’ve made it a personal mission to raise as much money as possible for the AIDS Foundation of Chicago (AFC).

I’m not a professional fundraiser, and I never thought I’d agree to run another 26.2 miles! But AFC’s work is so compelling, I feel I need to do my part.

Several times a week I’ll be up at the crack of dawn and hitting the streets as some of you are getting into a nice hot shower or enjoying a cup of coffee. I’m starting out with just three miles and each week I’ll push a little farther. Overall, I expect to log about 500 miles! When the going gets tough I’ll think about how lucky I am to be able to do this sort of thing when so many others can’t.

Nearly 1.2 million Americans are now living with HIV, and 40,000 more will become infected this year! These aren’t just numbers; they’re real people and real families. The AIDS Foundation of Chicago is leading the fight against HIV/AIDS in the Chicago area by funding prevention programs and vital services such as medical care, food and housing, to stop the spread of HIV and help people live full and productive lives until the day there’s a cure.
