Dear Friends and Family,
I’m running the Bank of America Chicago Marathon on October 11, 2009, as a member of the AIDS Marathon Training Program, an official charity program of the Chicago Marathon that benefits the AIDS Foundation of Chicago (AFC). I’m writing to ask for your financial support, as my registration includes a commitment to raise $1,600 for the AFC.
The Chicago Marathon hosts thousands of runners who choose to make their marathon experience more meaningful by running on behalf of a charity. As I begin my training season, my goals are for personal bests in my marathon time and in fundraising dollars.
While this is not my first marathon, nor will it be my last, it is the first time I’m combining training with fundraising. What I find particularly exciting about this challenge is knowing that every dollar raised supports an organization that makes a meaningful difference in the lives of others. Founded in 1985 by community activists and physicians, the AFC is leading the fight against HIV/AIDS in the Chicago area by funding prevention programs and vital services to stop the spread of HIV and help people live full and productive lives. With nearly 1.2 million Americans living with HIV, and 40,000 more becoming infected this year, the services provided by AFC are vitally important.
I know that it is a tough economic climate and that you have many opportunities to direct your charitable dollars to any number of organizations that provide valuable services. Please consider joining me in donating to a worthy organization by clicking the “Sponsor Me” button, and helping me reach my fundraising goal, with the knowledge that your contribution will make a difference in the lives of persons living with HIV/AIDS.
Thank you for your generous support.
