Marathon :: FAQs

Where do I train?
T2 Marathoners have four training sites to choose from. We recommend that you choose one site and stick with it. However, the training program is designed so that you can join another site on any given weekend and they will be doing the same training program. Everything will look the same except for the people.

     Chicago
          1. Lakefront North – Foster Avenue Beach (Saturdays @ 7 a.m.)
          2. Lakefront North – Foster Avenue Beach (Sundays @ 7 a.m.)
          3. Lakefront South – 31st Street Beach (Saturdays @ 7 a.m.)

     Oak Brook
          4. Central Park (Saturdays @ 7:00 AM)

How long are the training runs?
The T2 Training Program consists of consists of one longer run with a group on the weekends and two shorter maintenance runs on your own. (Our new Facebook application will allow you to meet-up with other runners during the week for these shorter runs). Group runs begin with only 3 miles and gradually build each week. To maintain your training and endurance built during the longer group runs, you will run for 30-45 minutes twice a week. A little bit of time each week will make you a hero for life.

Do I need experience?
No. T2 Training Programs are designed for both the experienced and beginner athlete. The T2 Standard Program utilizes a combination of running and walking. As long as you can run a 15-minute mile, we can train you to complete the marathon. T2’s experienced coaches will work with you to go the distance and TRIUMPH. T2’s Advance Program gives experienced runners an opportunity to set a personal record and even qualify for the Boston Marathon.

What gear do I need to run?
Our exclusive partnership with Fleet Feet Sports will give you access to the experts in running gear. Fleet Feet will put you in the right shoe for your feet and body type. Fleet Feet will also get you the proper water bottle, watch and Coolmax® clothing to get you to the finish line.

What support will I receive?
T2 coaches and staff are all experienced and knowledgeable marathoners who know what it takes to cross the finish line. Coaches will work with you in training, nutrition and injury prevention. They are dedicated to seeing everyone succeed. In addition to your Coach, you will be assigned a Program Representative. Your Program Rep is here to guide you and answer any questions you may have. They are also here to see that you succeed in your fundraising plan as well as have a great experience.

There is also nothing like the support of your TEAM. You will join hundreds of others with the same goals in mind. Within your TEAM you will be assigned to a pace group. A pace group is simply a group of people who run at the same pace and ability as you do. Your pace group will train together each week and may become your best friends as you support each other along this journey.

I have registered, now what?
Beginning Marathoners: To help prepare you we suggest that you get out there and move! Go out and walk for 30 minutes a few days a week. Leave a day of rest between days. If you are feeling it, run a little. Take some walk breaks before/after running. Just get your body moving and used to the feeling. Don’t worry about speed or distance, let us handle that. You will gradually feel more and more confident in yourself and will not be able to wait to lace up your shoes and get out on a run/walk.

Experienced Marathoners: If you are an experienced runner continue your running routine. Be sure not to over-train and risk injury.

Also, you will be given access to our new Facebook application where you can get to know other participants and get constant updates on the Program and upcoming events. Start telling everyone about what you have committed to in 2010!

Get involved – stay involved – you are now part of the T2 Family!
