Dear Friends and Family,
It’s Running Season once again in Chicago and this is my third year in a row running marathons through the National AIDS Marathon Training Program (NAMTP) to benefit the AIDS Foundation of Chicago (AFC). For six months, I will be training to complete the Bank of America Chicago Marathon on Sunday, October 11. That will be my sixth marathon in less than two years. I’m running the San Diego Marathon on Sunday, May 31, which will be my fifth – with hopes of a Personal Record (PR) time.
The Chicago Marathon is all about fund-raising for AFC. I’m proud to say I have been the top fund-raiser in Chicago for the NAMTP in 2007 and 2008 … and now I want the trifecta, three years running.
Before joining the NAMTP, I never in my wildest imagination even remotely thought I could finish a 26.2-mile marathon. But with the support from so many friends and family encouraging me along the six-month journey, that finish line doesn’t seem too far away.
My training for Chicago consists of one long run per week, anywhere from 3- to 23-miles, along with two or three mid-week runs, each for 30- to 45-minutes. I also spend time on the stationary bicycles at Bally’s Total Fitness two- or three-times per week, for up to 45 minutes each time. Overall, I expect to run about 500 miles before the gun fires to start the Chicago Marathon.
